Florencia Taccetti in Minneapolis

Argentine Tango Classes and Workshops

A native of Buenos Aires who is regarded as one of the premiere teachers of Argentine tango, Florencia Taccetti has established a schedule of regular classes and workshops in Minneapolis/St. Paul.  Between her extensive schedule of weekend workshops throughout North America, Florencia teaches classes on Thursday nights in Minneapolis.  While she is resident in Minneapolis, Florencia also offers private lessons and unannounced group classes.

During early 2008, Florencia took a lengthy break from break teaching regular classes.  During her break, Florencia returned to Buenos Aires to recharge her porteña soul.  While in Buenos Aires, Florencia worked with her ex-partner and teacher Gustavo Naveira.  Florencia said that Gustavo still surprises her with his excellence as a dancer and teacher.  Florencia resumed teaching her regular classes during the second week of April—inspired and ready to give the best of her porteña experience to those in her classes.  Florencia's June 2008 classes were a continuation of what she taught in April and May.  Florencia's midsummer classes were a little less formal.  Her exciting fall classes conveyed Tango Secrets from La Porteña.  Her early 2009 classes focused on milonga.

At midsummer 2009, illness forced Florencia to take an extended break from dancing and teaching.  In October, Florencia resumed teaching her ongoing classes.  At the beginning 2010, Florencia's Wednesday night intermediate and advanced class and Thursday night all levels class both focused on milonga.  In early Spring 2010, recovery from an accident and a scheduled surgery forced Florencia to suspend her classes once again.  She resumed teaching in May.

In response to Florencia's illness, her friends in Minneapolis and St. Paul organized Milonga Para Flor to help support Florencia and celebrate her contribution to the community.

Florencia also organizes workshops with touring instructors in Minneapolis.  Graciela Gonzalez was here in late June.  No workshops are currently scheduled.

Florencia's comments:
This is going to be a class based around the requests of the students participating.  We are going to work on technique, musicality and quality of movement in all elements.  Don't miss it!!!

This class was originally designed for couples, but if we have a good system of rotation, coming with a partner is not essential.  I would appreciate if each follower who is attending this class will ask at least one leader to participate in the class, so so we can make sure we have enough leaders for the class to be successful.  We don't need to have perfectly even numbers, but the closer the better.

Florencia's Notes:

Intermediate/advanced classes are typically taught in a series with new topics introduced about every 4-6 weeks.

Pricing: $75 for five weeks or $20 by class.
50% off for Full Time Students with student ID and unemployed.

Florencia's comments: We'll start a new series on Change of Directions, which means we may have to review "giros" structure and some technique to understand the underpinnings of change of directions.  Change of directions are useful to everyone, but particularly for those dancers who want to graduate into the Wednesday night classes.

Please take it easy while learning elements like these because the body needs time to develop skills that move beyond what the mind understands.  As the body learns, the movements become beautiful and fluid.  It may take more than one series on these elements, so give yourself time to learn and you'll get there.

Florencia's Notes:

Beginning to All Levels classes are typically taught in a series with new topics introduced about every 4-6 weeks.

Florencia's comments:
I'll be having a Saturday intensive on technique every 4th Saturday of the month to help the community as a whole.  You don't need to be in my classes in order to attend these seminars.  They are open to all levels of dancers from advanced beginners to professional level.  Absolute beginners should take my Thursday night classes first in order to get an introduction to tango.  These intensive seminars will be similar to the recent workshop with with Graciela Gonzalez, but I will also offer a space just for leaders.  Classes will be 90 minutes long.

Florencia's Book Recommendation:

Florencia recommends buying and reading, Mauricio Castro's book, Tango: The Structure of the Dance.  According to Florencia, mastering the material in Mauricio's book will end the vicious circle of taking classes with many different teachers and learning nothing.  The book conveys a deep understanding of the dance's structure, which enables you to create your own dance improvisationally without depending on memorized patterns.  Florencia says the graphics in Mauricio's book are challenging and require patience, but the system is very well explained, and her classes will help translate what's in the book into knowledge in each dancer's body.
